Disgorged end of 2011. This was the famous 10:10 years with 10 g/l acid. For Damien Le Sueur (directeur generale), this is a signature wine for all the effort in the Taittinger cellars. Some other 1996s have aged a bit too soon on the nose while the palate is still aggressive.
Toasty but not old on the nose. Lovely development on the palate – more obvious age than on the nose in fact. Tastes fully mature. Lovely tight bead. Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger (president) tasted the 1971 in NYC recently and it tasted even more youthful than the 1996, apparently. Persistent. Very lissom with lots of acidity. For Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, it's a 40-year-old woman on Copacabana beach. Acidity still very marked. Super tense!”
