Description

A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, Chateau Belair was, in 1981, owned by the same family that owned its neighbour, the better known Ch Ausone. In David Peppercorn's guide to the wines of Bordeaux he states 'Belair is nearly always one of the best Premier Grand Crus and that 'the wines tend to be a little richer and more fleshy than Ausone'. The '81 is fine and typical. In 2008 the new owner J-P MOUEIX renamed it Ch Belair-Monange. Oz Clarke states that the wines are capable of long aging. I bought the wine at the Chateau in the late 1980's at the vineyard as a birthday present for my daughter, born in 1981.
