Far less evolved than the 1989 and still youthful in colour. A rich ripe nose is followed by a dense, well endowed palate packed with black fruits, minerals and toasty oak. Without doubt the finest Leoville-Poyferre of the last 25 years.
The Wine Advocate - Absolutely spectacular, the 1990 Leoville Poyferre is much more evolved than either of its two Leoville neighbors. Its opaque plum/garnet colour is accompanied by a gorgeous bouquet of smoke, charcoal, creme de cassis, and flowers. Fleshy and opulent, it comes across like a St.-Julien with a Pomerol texture and allure. This beauty has reached full maturity where it should remain for another two decades. This is the last bottle of this delicious wine. It has been stored in an Eurocave since purchase and was part of a mixed case of Red Bordeaux purchased from a London wine merchant a few years ago. The cheapest I could fine on Wine Searcher was £250 ex vat.
