Description

This lot comprises three bottles. All are second wines from famous left bank second growth clarets; Pichon-Longueville, Leoville Poyferre and Leoville Barton.

All bottles were purchased near release and stored ever since in my cool cellar. The levels are all good with no sign of ullage. Pichon-Longueville was a relatively early adopter (for Bordeaux) of screwcaps for their wine. The capsule is quite long and it is slightly dented (pictured) but the seal is clearly intact. Front and rear labels show the inevitable minor markings and discolouration that comes with spending more than a decade in an appropriately humid and cool environment.

I am offering these wines in anticipation that the buyer will find them all ready for consumption, having personally tried them all in the relatively recent past (see notes of rwpalmer on cellartracker). 2005 is a firm vintage, and this is particularly reflected in the two St Julien wines in my view, whereas the Pauillac shows extra class and generosity of fruit (and attracts a significantly higher price on the secondary market). However, collectively this lot should provide an accessible peek at 2005 while waiting for the mightier cabernet sauvignon-dominant clarets of 2005 to mature.
