Description

Overall, the 1966 vintage is considered largely very good, if not excellent, for much of the wine world, but information can be patchy when it comes to certain regions – particularly those that were less established at that time.
Greve in Chianti is the northernmost sub-area of Chianti Classico on the border with Florence. Crossed from north to south by the river Greve, one of the three rivers of the Chianti Classico, it is characterized by soils rich in clays and marls and a continental climate. These pedoclimatic aspects characterize the production of the Chianti Classico of the Tenuta di Nozzole in power and elegance.

The Vineyards
The Sangiovese is the absolute protagonist of the Tenuta di Nozzole, where, in a unique ecosystem of Mediterranean scrub, it expresses all its potential. Used in purity in the vintage version, reserve and great selection, it is matured in small toasted woods and in large barrels of aged oak, a symbol of the Tuscan tradition, depending on the wine project. The Sangiovese is flanked by a Chardonnay vineyard called Le Bruniche where the white of the Estate is produced and two historic vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon for the production of the Supertuscan Il Pareto.
The Estate
A farm dating back to 1300 with 385 hectares of land of which about 90 with a specialized vineyard and 15 with an olive grove, was purchased by the Folonari family in 1971. The Villa di Nozzole is located at the top of the hill that rises from 150 meters to about 300 meters above sea level. The large bar and the vault of the historical vintages are two architectural exclusivity of the Estate that offers the possibility of guided tours and tastings of all the wines of the Tenuta Folonari.

The Tenuta di Nozzole wines
The Chianti Classico of the Tenuta di Nozzole are all produced with Sangiovese in purity of the Tenuta and differ in the different use of the woods in maturation. Nozzole, is a modern Chianti Classico, La Forra is the historic Riserva produced since 1980 by the international style and Giovanni Folonari Gran Selezione a small production born in 2013 strongly desired by the president and his interpretation of the version of chianti classic more linked to tradition
