Description

Undisputedly symbolic of the Speri company, the Amarone Sant’Urbano is a superb example of a fine, classic wine. It is an extraordinary wine with great complexity and a vigorous structure, which has always been top for its elegance and quality.

VINEYARDS
The Monte Sant’Urbano property in the municipality of Fumane: located on a hill at between 280 and 350 m./a.s.l., it benefits from excellent exposure to sunlight. The average age of the vines is high.

GRAPE VARIETIES
Corvina Veronese e Corvinone 70%,
Rondinella 25%,
Molinara 5%.

VINIFICATION
Manual selection of the finest bunches followed by drying for around 100 days, with a loss of about 40% in the weight of the grapes. These are destemmed and pressed and fermentation with maceration takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.

AGEING
24 months in 500 l. French oak tonneaux and 18 months in medium-to-large Slavonian oak casks. Maturation in bottle for 12 months.

ALCOHOL CONTENT
15% vol.

TASTING NOTE
A deep garnet red in color, it has an ethereal bouquet of dried fruit. On the palate, it is full-bodied, warm, mouth-filling and dry. A substantial wine of rare elegance that lends itself well to ageing.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Excellent with richly flavored main courses based on red meat, such as braised meats and game, and perfect with mature cheeses. It can also be enjoyed on its own at the end of a fine dinner.

VIGNETO MONTE SANT’URBANO
“This is a place of exceptional beauty where the vines, oluive trees and cherry trees seem to have found their natural position among the winding curves of the hills of the municipality of Fumane”

Italian Wines
Gambero Rosso ed.

The Monte Sant’Urbano vineyard is in the Valpolicella Classica area, in the municipality of Fumane, at an altitude between 280 and 350 m/above sea level. This vineyard, in addition to offering one of the finest crus in the area, also offers a great heritage of biodiversity: here we find grapevines, many of which are very old, as well as woods and olive and cherry groves.
The soil is of volcanic origin with basalt components mixed with limestone and cretaceous schist, giving a valuable mix that favors production of grapes rich with aromatic and extractive components and a level of freshness and refinement of bouquet that marries perfectly with the production philosophy of the Winery, founded on elegance and tradition.

“When tradition is the fruit of decades of experience and stylistic integrity is an indispensable value”.

The Speri family, if Amarone della Valpolicella is the latest born of Valpolicella wines, is one of the oldest wineries to produce this wine: the first bottles that were marketed date back to the second half of the nineteen fifties. And the Winery has always focused its greatest efforts here.
Speri produces a single Amarone, Amarone docg Classico Sant’Urbano.
Grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, and carefully graded to select only loosely clustered bunches, those that have the best characteristics for long natural drying on racks.
The Winery has three fruit sheds located in hill or foothill zones with good natural ventilation for mold-free drying and maintenance of the organoleptic properties of the grapes. The main fruit shed is in the center of the Speri family’s Sant’Urbano Estate, 300 m/above sea level, the perfect position that guarantees a dry climate and excellent ventilation.
Here grapes are still dried on traditional “arele” wooden and bamboo racks, well distanced one from the other.
The Speri family, in its effort to always achieve the best possible quality, does not produce Amarone during unfavorable vintages and only markets the wine when at least 12 months have elapsed after the date set by the production regulations.
