Level is base of neck, which is astonishing for a wine some 56 years old.
Some staining to label & some marking to capsule, all general cellaring wear & tear. Has always been kept under cellared conditions.
The 1962 Vega Sicilia possesses quite astonishing purity on the nose with candied dark cherry fruit, eucalyptus, Kirch & a touch of cinnamon.
This is what you might describe as a " perfect bouquet ". The palate is medium bodied with filigree tannins, seamless and satin like texture. A Unico that is shimmering with untrammelled greatness. Youthful, vivacious & utterly compelling, this is a profound wine that even after 4 decades is surfeit with precocity. Undoubtedly, this wine must be one of the greatest Spanish wines to have graced this planet.
Everything is perfectly set, in perfect order, showing a living & vibrant wine that is one of the best vintages in the history of Vega Sicilia. Robert Parker 100pts.
