Ever had a perfectly mature Maximin Grunhaus Auslese? Or even a Kabinett..These are much rarer than old Prum, especially with this impeccable provenance.
Rare Rieslings..so collectable from a killer Vintage 1983
My first aged Riesling was way back in the day and it was an '88 Maximin Grunhaus Abtsberg Auslese of which I forget the fuder number. They make normal Auslesen from their two principal sites, Abtsberg and Herrenberg. They also make the special selected numbered Auslesen, which are specific barrels that they deem special. This is what collectors and Riesling freaks go crazy over. That '88 Auslese showed me how magnificent these wines can be with age. It was a turning point for me. The benefits of age vastly outweighed the benefits of drinking the stuff young. So much complexity, layering and unique flavors. Still it was youthful and fresh. I have never had a Maximin Grunhaus wine that was over the hill. Just always young and old at the same time, which, in my opinion, is how wine should show when well-aged and mature. Even the small bottlings like QBA and Kabinetten age forever.
I only picked the best vintages and most interesting wines from this parcel.
