Description

As per photos. Removed from the original wooden case which had suffered a slightly damp cellar in an Edwardian grand house near Eastbourne.

Michael Broadbent*****
Twenty months en barrique and 14.5% alcohol. First tasted in June 1991: pure gold, not the deep orange of some earlier vintages; rich, ripe, crisp, flavour. Next at the château in 1996, opening up nicely. Very sweet, dry finish. For some reason it reminded me of raisins in rum. Attractive but 'a touch of clumsiness' at the Decanter tasting....Later now a beautiful pure gold; bouquet variously noted as 'lychees and rose petals', almost Gewurstraminer-like , peaches, apricots and, as usual, honey; sweet of course, with lovely flesh and flavour, good length, long life predicted.

Robert Parker tasted 11/94 90 pts.
The 1990 is precocious and flattering, with a tropical fruit-scented nose, big, spicy, rich, high-alcohol flavors, and a fine underpinning of acidity giving everything clarity and crispness. The 1990 will be drinkable at an earlier age than the 1989, but it will last just as long. Anticipated maturity: now-2020.
