Description

A classic Guiraud with a combination of power and elegance. The flavour is deep and sweet, expansive and impressive, with ample fruit matched with opulent, creamy oak.

86/100 | Robert Parker: "Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The millennial Guiraud has a respectable bouquet considering the challenges of the growing season with light resinous/waxy scents. The palate is actually quite enjoyable with quince, bitter orange and citric acidity. This is a decent wine that should be consumed in the near future. Drink now. Tasted April 2013."

From an odd 500ml bottle. Still very young and primary. Tropical fruits, especially mangoes. A bit cloying and heavy like how Sauternes tend to be but still enjoyable at the end of a dinner. Serve this very chilled.

This is at a delicious stage. The initial sweetness is now giving more complexities. Approaching amber colour, the nose is magically complex of wet earth, aged honey, slightly Smokey even, and on the palate its texture is velvety, unctuous and ever more inviting to appreciate the caramel, slightly butter/caramel/salt and dried apricot as well. I actually find myself to be quite silly to describe this into a few lines of words... one must simply look out for it and taste it! Cheers,

Initially, the wine was simply sweet and not very interesting. Over two days it opened up into something really very special with nice spice and tropical fruit notes to compliment the dominant caramel-like character.
