Description

TWO lots of TWO bottles from the outstanding 2001 vintage.
From the original wooden case and are in perfect condition.

Probably the most beautiful 'chateau' in the whole area. Constructed in 1786 by the architect Victor Louis also has to his credit Chateau Margaux and the fabulous Grand Théatre de Bordeaux.

The 16 hectares under vines are planted with 90% Semillon, 6% Semillon and 4% Muscadelle. Aged in new oak.

"An evolved style, with a moderate amber colour as well as good acidity, it is powerful and rich although somewhat disjointed. Notes of crème brulèe, honeyed pineapple, sweet peaches and other tropical fruits emerge from this big 2001. Not yet revealing all of its charm, it requires 4-6 years of cellaring, and should age for 15+ years. 88-91 points". Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (2004).

and some rather more recent comments from Cellartracker:

12/1/2016 - JOHN MCCABE WROTE: 92 Points
Attractive, with plenty of orange peel and marmalade, a bit simple in some respects, but there is depth to the finish and even a surprising dry tone that is welcome and balances against the typical sweetness. Its age and maturity shows, which may appeal to some, but I was hoping for more energy, incisiveness and something more racy. The '09 of this wine is stunning by the way - more verve and drama.
On day two, and at closer to room temperature (vs. closer to refrigerator temperature on the first day), this is showing better - more weight and incisiveness, and the mature style is showing better too.

6/5/2016 - HONEST BOB WROTE: 92 Points
From 37,5cl, perfect cork. This has matured beautifully. Exquisitely balanced, barley-sugar/almond sweetness meets bright agile acidity. Wonderful, long, passion-fruit-infused finish. No hurry. 92P

3/6/2016 - VLGJEFF LIKES THIS WINE: 92 Points
A joy to drink. A beautiful orange-gold colour showing a mellow aging. On the nose it clearly showed itself to be botrytized with aromas of apricot, honey and orange rind. It was smooth, and not overly sweet on the palate, showing the same apricot, honey and orange marmalade, along with almond (marzipan?) and faint spice. Acidity was perfectly balanced, and should carry until at least 2020. Perfectly accompanied by Cantuccini alla Mandorla, which are usually reserved for Vin Santo.

12/5/2015 - RMALLOY LIKES THIS WINE: 93 Points
Custardy flavours, but vivacious and not too sweet. Just great.
