Description

6 Bottles of 2004 Domaine Gauby Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes Le Soulà Blanc.

Le Soula is a wine made by Languedoc Pioneer Gerard Gauby and UK agents Richards Walford. The wines come from scattered parcels that are based at high altitudes giving good yields of healthy fruit. The wine comes from 10 hectares of different varietals from vines averaging 20 years of age. Planted mainly on granite soil, they are:

Macabeu 4 ha (on average planted in 1980)
Sauvignon 2,5 ha (1991)
Marsanne / Roussanne : 1 ha (2003)
Vermentino (Rolle) : 1 ha (1994)
Grenache Blanc : 0,5 ha (1990)
Grenache Gris : 0,5 ha (1957)
Malvoisie du Roussillon (Tourbat) : 0,5 ha (1984)

The 2004 Blanc is a blend of 35% Grenache Blanc & Grenache Gris, 35% Sauvignon and 30% Marsanne, Roussanne, Macabeu and Chinin Blanc combined. Just 12,000 bottles produced via raising in 500 liter-demi-muids with 15 months on fine lees. The wine is not fined and underwent light filration before bottling.

Tasting note from the Scotsman, 2008

“The 2004 has a much more rich, almondy, nutty character. In the glass, it develops a pungent, pineapple flavour with a mineral element. Perfect with monkfish”

The whites from this domaine are undoubtedly the real stars with an almost Hermitage feel to them. I find this wine very similar to Musar Blanc but with more body and richness. If you’re a fan of the whites from Musar you will really enjoy this wine. And it goes without saying; these wines are real food wines.

Wines are sold In Bond and are stored in Seckfords and can either be delivered to your home address, transferred to your Seckfords account or delivered under bond to another licensed warehouse such as LCB, Octavian etc.
