Description

A perfect bottle straight from the original case and wrapped in tissue.

Ch de Fargues is under the ownership of the Lur Saluces family, who in the recent past were obliged to sell the family jewels Château d'Yquem, due to internecine squabbles, huge amounts of money from Monsieur Bernard Arnaud and jealousy.

Retreating to the 'other' estate round the corner, the Lur Saluces family have maintained the stupendous quality of this small estate and indeed without other distractions have elevated this wine to the highest ranks as one would expect from ex Yquem owners for over 200 years.
Plenty more background and comments are readily available on the net.

The critics appear unanimous on the great quality of this wine :

WS 95 Wine Spectator - Wine Spectator, May 2012
This is really attention-getting, with a seamless toasted coconut note weaving through lush tarte tartine, creamed apricot and heather flavors. As exotic as the flavors are, they are tightly focused and framed by a mouthwatering date note, with a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2030.

WE 94 Wine Enthusiast - Wine Enthusiast, March 2009
A firm, densely structured wine, with the sweetness turned as much into richness. The flavors are of Seville orange zest, the richness coming from honey and almonds, balanced with dry botrytis. An impressive wine that needs time for aging.
WA 93
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2016
Tasted at the Sauternes 2006 ten-year on horizontal in Bordeaux. The 2006 de Fargues has a broody nose, piqued at being broached too young (at least for Château de Fargues). The palate is rounded on the entry with orange zest and marmalade notes, very good weight but it feels a little muted towards the finish at the moment. That is typical de Fargues - cellar this for another ten years because all the component parts are here. Tasted April 2016.

NM 92 Neal Martin's Wine Journal - Neal Martin's Wine Journal, July 2010
Tasted blind at Southwold ’06 Bordeaux tasting. The nose is rather closed: barley sugar, honey, a touch of tangerine. Tight fisted. The palate is medium-bodied, well balanced with good acidity. Reticent, perhaps almost mealy but it improves with aeration. Quite a mercurial wine, but it coalesces over 20-30 minutes with notes of tangy marmalade, quince and Seville orange. Once it starts motoring, it really sets off in fifth gear and there is a lovely tang of fresh ginger on the aftertaste.

Recent CellarTracker notes are equally convincing:

5/8/2017 - LUPODESMO4 WROTE:94 Points
Quite dark golden colour for the age.Nose of orange zest, peach, pineapple almonds.Very sweet but well balanced by the high level of acidity.Mouthcoating, rich wine, very long finish with slight bitter almond taste. Will be a killer wine in 20-30 years.

11/21/2016 - PSPATRICK WROTE:93 Points
“Bordeaux 1959 – 2014 (blind)”, flight 8, wine 3. The wine was medium orange-amber in colour and offered orange marmalade, botrytis spice and some tea on the nose. On the palate the wine showed orange marmalade, peach, botrytis spice, cane sugar and a touch of honey, with good, medium-plus acidity and superb length. An incredibly balanced and very seductive Sauternes!

5/1/2016 - CABISKING WROTE:95 Points
Yummy nose of honey, caramel, crème brûlée and orange peel. Very intense and palate coating in the mouth with a long, memorable finish. Age or drink now.

Very impressing Sauternes. Agree with others
