Description
100 % Vermentino picked by hand with fermentation taking place in stainless tanks with (2 days maceration on the skin) started with a pied de cuvee. The wine then remains in the stainless steel until Spring and is bottled without filtration. This is fresh and intense: abundant with aromas of citrus friuts and lemon tree leaves. A hint of rosemary is intertwined with evident mineral notes, a testimony to strong presence of granite in the vineyard soil. This is the wine previously sold as Vermentino di Sardegna DOC. In 2017 they did not receive the DOC certification for 'typicity' - can you have too much personality?
The artisanal, family-owned winery Pusole is located on the eastern shore of central Sardegna, in the Ogliastra region which offers a varied terrain, going from the beautiful seaside to mountains over 1100 meters tall.
Here, for four generations, the Pusole family has cultivated its land, producing wine, corn and olive oil, in addition to breeding a local species of semi-wild pigs called “razza sarda”. Today the family business is run by the siblings Loredana, Lorenzo and Roberto. They believe in traditional and natural farming methods, with no use of herbicides and pesticides, no irrigation and no use of chemical products. The soils are worked often and weed control is obtained by inviting herds of sheep into the vineyards. Respect for nature is a key word in everything Pusole does.
The winery is currently preparing 5 new hectares of vineyards with Cannonau and Vermentino.
Also in the cellar Pusole follows a production philosophy which aims at preserving the true character of the wines, shaped by the soil and the vintage. Only indigenous yeasts are used for the fermentation, and temperatures are controlled exclusively by airing the must.
