Description

From one of my favourite Sauternes vintages, a vintage that, surprise, surprise, I wish I owned and drank more of. A light tartrate sediment, but otherwise a crystal clear mid-gold colour. A wonderful nose, honeyed, full of quince, barley sugar, all very bright and lifted. This is very fine. The same impression comes from the palate, which is upright and mineral, showing a little chalkiness through the mid palate. Full, quince and honey flavour, elegantly creamy but with very precise, well delineated acidity. A lovely balanced sweetness, and a divine length. This is an absolute stunner, which in terms of maturity is still very much on the up I feel. Excellent. From my 2006 Birthday Treats. 19+/20 (March 2006) The Wine Doctor

The 1986 is a complex and elegant wine, with plenty of smoky almonds, peaches, and honeyed apricot fruit in the nose and flavors. In the mouth, the wine has a certain elegance, and perhaps not quite the punch one normally expects from Rieussec. Nevertheless, it is a compelling Sauternes that should age magnificently.
92.5/100 Robert Parker

From halves and in fine fettle. Deep gold rather than the more usual tawny of Rieussec. Still tangy and lively with the freshness still masking the obvious richness. 17.5/20 points Jancis Robinson (9/2013)
