Description

I am selling one 750ml bottle of 1967 Yquem. Deep amber color, top shoulder fill.

The wine has been properly stored, the color is good and the cork is in very good condition (see photos and my description). The label is heavily stained and the capsule is torn (again, see my description). The fill level is top-shoulder, which for a bottle of this age is very good and indicative of proper storage.

First, some history: I purchased this bottle in 2009 from Winebid. It had been stored in a temperature controlled storage area prior, and since it has been in my possession I have stored it in my Eurocave. Because of the stained label (and the fact that the cork was 1-2mm lower than the top of the bottle), when I received the bottle I removed the top of the capsule to check the cork. As pictured, the cork was and remains in very good condition. I am very happy to discuss any questions you may have or to send additional photos.

The main reason for my selling this is because, after almost 9 years, I recognize that I just don't drink sweet wine by the full 750ml bottle, so I prefer halves.

The cheapest 750ml bottle of 1967 yquem will cost ¬£800 to get to your door. Halves will cost about £500.

Anyway, I've had this wine a few times before, and it's always been fantastic! Here are some reviews from pros and from cellartracker:

Neal Martin, Wine-Journal.com: Very deep amber colour. A quite astounding nose of orange-rind, apricot, sultanas and fig. Amazing definition and vitality. The palate is very intense, perhaps quite conservative in some ways. Unctuous texture, good acidity with marmalade, quince and apricot. There is a slight dryness on the finish, but this is a majestic, authoritative wine that demands attention. Tasted November 2004.
Score: 97-99

Wine Spectator: From one of the 20th century’s celebrated vintages for Yquem, this bottle stands up to all the hype–unforgettable for its purity, elegance, harmony, its “total” everything. Powerful, yet it seems weightless on the palate, almost defying gravity as it tangos around with its vanilla, peach and apricot flavors. Seamless, nearly endless finish. Easy to understand its reputation as the greatest Yquem of the last 35 years.–Yquem vertical. Drink now through 2018 – 100 points

Robert Parker: Based solely on the strength of what is unquestionably a great Yquem, many have concluded that 1967 was a superb vintage for Sauternes. The truth is that 1967 was a very good but irregular vintage. As for Yquem, it is close to perfection. Medium amber/golden with a full intensity bouquet of vanillin spice, honey, ripe pineapples, and coconut, this intense, very ripe, unctuous Yquem has layers of sweet, opulent fruit, excellent balance, and a hefty, powerful finish. Almost too big and rich to be served with food, this wine should be drunk alone as a dessert. From the point of view of this wine's evolution, it has hardly budged in the last six years. Anticipated maturity: Now-2035. 96 points.

Cellartracker:
12/28/2016 - JEFF LEVE WROTE: 97 Points
If creme caramel, butterscotch, sweet, ripe, tropical fruits, orange, flowers, honey, roasted chestnuts and silky, plush, opulent textures is your thing, this wine is for you. This wine was for me and I loved it! What a stunning beauty. Happy I was able to share it with my father for our end of the year dinner. There was just a bit of wine left in the bottle overnight and it was still going strong. At days before its 50th birthday, this is really delivering the goods.

I know it's popular to knock Yquem for its price when measured against its peers. And there is something to that, especially when the wine is young. But when Yquem hits 50, or even older, this is when the magic really happens and the other wines are left behind.

9/12/2016 - JEREMY HOLMES WROTE:
It has a nose of lavender, honey, apricot, ripe peach and spice. The palate has caramel sweetness and it is an Yquem of great power and volume. It is complex with superb balance.

5/22/2016 - FCLARITY WROTE: 97 Points
Tasted blind, this wine had a light tan center with yellow/clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose offered up orange peels, pears, marzipan, honey, and vanilla. In the mouth, this wine had a fantastic texture. It was beautifully integrated and balanced. Moreover, it was refined yet very long. This bottle was really hitting on all cylinders. While this could easily be drunk now, it will certainly last for a couple decades.

5/20/2016 - BURGUNDY AL WROTE: 96 Points
Wine Dinner Extravaganza (David Burke's Primehouse - Chicago IL): Brief late night note. Dried apricot aromas and flavors with intense concentration. I don't recall how long this was open before serving, but it seemed to get better with more air, showing more nuance and greater length.
