Description

2000 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A 1,000-case blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, the profound 2000 Hermitage blanc boasts a terrific perfume of honeysuckle, white flowers, peaches, citrus, and minerals. Displaying an unctuous texture along with tremendous glycerin, richness, and depth, it will undoubtedly close down after a few years in the bottle, but for now, it is a spectacularly rich, multidimensional white Hermitage to drink young, then forget about for 5-10 years, after which it will last for 15-20 years. (6/2003)
91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Reticent nose opened with aeration to reveal lemon, honey, licorice, hay, mirabelle and lanolin. Rich but tightly wound; at once powerful and subtle. Flavors of orchard and citrus fruits and spring flowers. Finishes very long and fine. This is still very closed following the September bottling and will almost certainly merit a higher score with time in bottle. (2/2003)
K&L Notes
From Robert Parker: "I have had the privilege of tasting at this brilliant family-owned estate for over 30 years. During that time, I have seen first-hand the glory of a true evolution from father Gerard Chave to his son, Jean-Louis, and of course, the Chave family has been doing this since 1472. It is one of those small but world-class wine enterprises that is truly inspiring. Tasting through the different vineyards before their newest red and white Hermitages are blended is an education in the different terroirs of that famous dome of largely decomposed granite mixed with gravel and clay. ..."
