Description
2001 J.-F. Coche Dury Meursault
91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Spice-laden toast can be discerned in the aromatic profile of the 2001 Meursault (Narvaux). Medium-bodied, sultry, and densely packed, it coats the palate with honeyed minerals, apple sauce, and poached pears. Youthfully fresh and beautifully balanced, it is concentrated, powerful, and expressive. Anticipated maturity: now-2012....In a year where many vignerons were whining about the difficulties associated with the vintage, an ecstatic Jean-Francois Coche could be found gleefully slurping his wines, joyfully uttering such comments as 'magnificent yellow-pink grapes', 'pure and rich', 'incredible flesh, the grape’s resin in fact'. While others bemoaned the rot and botrytis, Coche extolled the virtues of his 'stunning grapes, without a trace of botrytis.' To Jean-Francois Coche, 2001 is a great vintage for whites, 'because the grapes were healthy, perfectly ripe with golden colors, yields were moderate, certainly lower than 2000 and 1999, and the malolactic fermentations took a really long time, from early winter to September for most of them (one was still gurgling away). These wines will age extremely well, in fact I’m considering not releasing the top wines for a number of years like I’ve done with the 1996s.' (Narvaux) (6/2003)

Pure, discreet aromas of candied fruits and minerals. Juicy, taut and minerally, with terrific precision and grip. Long and stony on the back end. Serious juice, and precise for the vintage. (Narvaux) (10/2003)

Relatively deep golden. A pretty and fully mature nose of really lovely complexity| especially for a villages level wine| dissolves into intense| round and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors that offer exceptionally good Meursault character and an abundance of minerality on the long finish. This still vibrant effort continues to pack plenty of flavor authority and one that has arrived at its peak of maturity. I would suggest drinking this up over the next 5 to 7 years or so as there is no additional upside development potential. In sum| this is a simply terrific wine for its level. Tasted twice with consistent notes. (12/2011)

Quite incredible quality for a nine year-old village wine. Lots of struck match fuminess. Wonderful vibrancy but no meanness. Lots of ripe fruit and undertow with super-brisk acidity. All smoke and a little fire in the nicest possible way. Leftovers in an almost empty bottle were still great 24 hours afterwards. (1/2010)
