The von Schubert family, who amassed a coal fortune in the nineteenth century, bought the estate from the government following the Napoleonic era break up of the great ecclesiatical estates. The estate of Grunhaus is one of the oldest in Germany, receiving various mentions in historical books over the last millenium, literally. Its religious connections are deep-rooted and the vineyard names reflect the hierarchy within the monasteries.
The wine is from the Herrenberg vineyard producing refined, understated Rieslings that often display green and white fruit aromas
