Overview

Chateau Beausejour Becot was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B Saint-Émilion in 1955, but was demoted in 1986 to Grand Cru Classé and promoted again to Premier Grand Cru Classé B, in 1996.

The vineyard is planted to 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. They are however looking to replace all of the Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc in the coming years. Recently known for a very heavy oaky 'Parker' style through the 90's and 00's. In recent years this has been dialled back. Cement vats have been installed and the level of new oak dropped to 60% with 25% of the wines ageing now taking place in 8hl amphoras. The wine is considered to have been far more consistent since 2010 and with a new technical director in place since 2018 the future looks very promising for this producer.
