Overview

Château Canon-la-Gaffelière is a Bordeaux wine from the appellation Saint-Émilion, ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the Classification of Saint-Émilion wine in 2012 and certified fully organic from 2014. Owned by the Counts von Neipperg since 1971, currently headed up by Stephan von Neipperg with no external consultant.


The terrorir is mainly on the cotes with clay-limestone and clay-sand, very well draining and known for early ripening. The 19.5 ha vineyard is laid to 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, giving it one of the highest percentages of Cabernet in the region. Furthermore average vine age here is 50 years old with planting at a density of 6,660 vines/ha. The entire estate is classified.


The wine produced is powerful and muscular with pleasant aromatics, showing less oak influence since the 2014 vintage with 60% of the wine aged in new oak.


95% of the production goes into the 1st wine with 5% going to their second wine labeled :es Hauts de Canon la Gaffeliere
