Chateau Trotte Vieille is a Bordeaux wine ranked Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru holding the ranking since 1955.
Owned by the Casteja family since 1950 the 33ha vineyard sits entirely on the limestone plateau and planted to 50% old vine Cabernet Franc, some as old as 140 years, 46% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines age well and are treated to 100% new oak to fatten the wine over time.
The vineyard has approx 1,000 pre-phylloxera vines, mainly used in the first wine, but they keep one barrel of this production for a special bottling.
70% of production makes it into the first wine with 30% going to the second label La Vielle Dame de Trottevielle.
