Château-Figeac is a wine estate in the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, ranked as Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the 1955 rankings it was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in 2022.
Chateau Figeac is among the largest estates in Saint-Émilion comprising 40 hectares of vineyards planyte to 40% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Terroir studies have. shown that the majority of the vineyard sits on gravel, with some as deep as seven metres, all underpinned by clay. Some vines are touching a hundred years old with the average being 40 years old.
The wine, which is one of the most famous of Saint-Émilion, is aged in 100% new oak barrels and unlike other estates that are dialling back the oak influence and tannins, Figeac is going in the other direction, but critics believe this has enhanced the quality of the wine in tune with the terror. Notable vintages include 1982,1998 and 2001.
80% of the Figeac production goes into the first wine with 20% making a second wine labelled Le Petite Figeac (since 2011) previously La Grange Neuve de Figeac.
